We continue to monitor the situation and keep in regular contact with our travel partners. Many airlines and hotels, have adjusted their policies in response to the outbreak. Below you will find information on travel safety and industry updates to help business travelers stay informed and make educated decisions about future travel plans.

  • Stay informed and remain vigilant when traveling and heed all official advisories.
  • Discuss your travel plans with your health care provider. Older adults and travelers with underlying health issues may be at risk for more severe disease.
  • Travel with all necessary travel documentation, including health insurance cards.
  • Consult your AAA travel consultant for any changes to travel plans or requirements.
  • Know the nearest location of and contact information for the U.S. embassy or consulate to contact them in case of an emergency. Also, enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for everyday preventive measures to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases:
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing. Use a tissue or your bent elbow when coughing or sneezing, dispose of it, and wash your hands afterward.
  • Bring at least 14 days of extra medication in case of unexpected travel delays, and a list of all medications in case you need refills.

The Department of State issued a global health advisory on March 11 recommending U.S. citizens reconsider travel abroad due to the global impact of COVID-19. Many areas throughout the world are now experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and taking action that may limit traveler mobility, including quarantines and border restrictions. Even countries, jurisdictions, or areas where cases have not been reported may restrict travel without notice.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic, as the total number of global cases surpassed 118,000 in 114 countries, and 4,291 people have lost their lives. WHO notes that describing the situation as a pandemic does not change its overall assessment of the threat posed by this virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus. The outbreak first started in Wuhan, China, but cases have been identified in a growing number of other countries, including the U.S
