American Airlines has joined its main rivals in extending all elite AAdvantage members' benefits by one year through January 31, 2022. The new expiration date will be displayed in members' accounts online within the next few weeks. In addition, various elite status qualifications will be reduced for 2020.
The Transportation Security Administration has amended screening protocol to allow passengers to pass through screening wearing cloth face coverings. They do not have to be removed but the TSA wants passengers to be prepared to adjust masks so that a TSA officer can visually confirm their identity.
The Department of Transportation has mandated airlines to provide cash refunds to passengers when flights are cancelled. However, when a passenger cancels their own flight, they must follow the airline’s rules in the contract of carriage which could include extra fees and/or airline credit.
The Global Business Travel Association has moved its annual convention to November 7-11, 2020 in Denver due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the first such postponement in its 52-year history of hosting the convention. The convention was originally scheduled for July 25-29 in Denver.
