Amazon.com announced a partnership with Marriott International through which the hotelier will place Amazon Echo units with a special version of the Alexa virtual assistant, Alexa for Hospitality, in guestrooms in select Marriott hotels.
Guests will be able to use Alexa for ordering room service, calling the front desk, calling housekeeping, controlling lights in the guest room, and playing music. Guests will also be able to log into their personal accounts.
Marriott did not specify which hotels or hotel brands would be the first to receive Alexa for Hospitality. Amazon said it will delete any conversations with Alexa on a daily basis.
Alexa was introduced by Amazon in 2014 and was reportedly inspired by the computer voice and system in the science fiction television series “Star Trek.”
