TripIt Adds International Travel & Safety Features

Users of SAP Concur's TripIt now have access to safety ratings for nearly 30,000 neighborhoods around the world through a partnership with travel safety ratings firm GeoSure, and the itinerary app now can read confirmation emails in English, as before, but also in French, German and Japanese. The app parses such emails to extract travel details for the traveler's itinerary.

The app serves up travel safety scores—1 signifying the lowest risk and 100 the highest—only for locations in a traveler's itinerary, but a spokesperson said a traveler who wants to know about the score of another neighborhood could add it to his or her itinerary. The service also breaks down neighborhoods' scores by such factors as physical harm, theft, political freedoms, health and medical and women's safety.

GeoSure composes the scores using proprietary data, as well as data from organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Interpol, The World Bank, World Health Organization, the United Nations and human rights organizations. The company launched in 2013 and in July plans to offer its own duty of care mobile app directly to companies, said GeoSure chief strategy officer and partner Daniel Madden.

Users of TripIt's paid version, TripIt Pro, also have gained an International Travel Tools feature, which includes embassy information, currency conversions and socket and plug requirements for electronics for 180 countries.
